HYBE’s rising K-pop girl group ILLIT has revealed the retro-inspired concept for their second Japanese digital single Sunday Morning, set for release on January 13, 2026. The announcement, paired with a series of concept photos, has quickly captured the attention of fans across Asia and beyond, showcasing a new aesthetic direction while building on the group’s growing momentum in the Japanese music market.
The concept photos draw inspiration from classic maid cafés of 1990s Japan, blending vintage charm with modern styling to create what fans are calling a "retro modern" look. Shot in warmly lit spaces filled with plush, nostalgic details like frilled tablecloths, antique teacups, and soft lace accents, the images highlight each member’s unique personality: Yunah exudes elegance with a poised gaze, Minju offers a gentle, thoughtful expression, Moka brings playful energy to her pose, Wonhee radiates sweetness, and Iroha captivates with a dreamlike demeanor.

Sunday Morning is a J-pop rock track produced by renowned Japanese artist Mega Shinnosuke, known for his ability to blend retro and contemporary musical elements. Lyrically, the song explores the joyful pull of love over the weekend, capturing the excitement and tenderness of spending special time with a partner. This release follows ILLIT’s successful Japanese debut last September, which saw their first single chart in the top 10 of Oricon’s daily digital rankings, establishing a strong foundation of support in the region.
Since their global debut in March 2024, ILLIT has emerged as one of the most talked-about new acts in K-pop, praised for their synchronized performances, vocal versatility, and ability to adapt to diverse concepts. The group’s expansion into Japan has been marked by careful attention to local musical tastes and visual aesthetics, a strategy that has resonated deeply with Japanese listeners.
Fan reactions to the new concept photos have been overwhelmingly positive, with social media platforms filled with comments describing the group as "your first love" and praising how the vintage theme complements each member’s natural charm. As the release date approaches, anticipation continues to build, with many fans eager to see how the concept translates into the single’s music video and live performances.
