In a YouTube video uploaded on May 21 to his channel “Sleepy Is Right,” titled “Sleepy’s Heartfelt Thoughts and Updates on His 6-Year Lawsuit,” the artist reflected candidly on past mistakes amid ongoing personal and legal challenges.
Sleepy and Jin first connected while filming the survival program Laws of the Jungle. At the time, before BTS achieved global dominance, Jin reached out to the struggling rapper. Sleepy recalled Jin treating him to a meal without fanfare during a difficult period, a gesture that helped solidify their bond. Jin later sent supportive private messages via KakaoTalk as BTS rose to international stardom.
However, Sleepy admitted to repeatedly sharing screenshots of those private conversations on social media, despite Jin’s initial tolerance. “He overlooked it once or twice, but I kept posting them,” Sleepy confessed in the video.
The relationship deteriorated further when reports emerged about Sleepy’s financial difficulties. Jin reportedly offered assistance, saying he wanted to help if needed. Sleepy declined but later recounted the exchange on the variety show Radio Star, motivated, he said, by a desire for public attention. Following the broadcast, communication between the two ceased.
In his video, Sleepy expressed genuine remorse. “I was wrong. I really want to tell him I’m sorry,” he stated, adding that he had considered approaching Jin at a wedding but ultimately did not. He described reflecting on the lost connection with regret.
The apology comes as Sleepy continues to address challenges from prolonged litigation with his former agency. Observers note that the incident highlights the delicate balance celebrities must maintain between personal relationships and public life under intense scrutiny.
While it remains unclear whether the two artists will reconcile, Sleepy’s willingness to take accountability has drawn mixed reactions from fans, with many praising his honesty.
